NannerBubbleBobble

BubbleBobble is one of my favorite games for the NES/arcade. In it, you play as either Bub or Bob - a human boy transformed into a bubble-breathing dinosaur and cast into the cave of monsters to rescue your girlfriend from the evil Baron Von Bubbla. It's ridiculous. It's full of really cool secrets (including a set of 10 hidden levels and some random items you may never see pop up in the game's 100 levels). It has a catchy song that is already stuck in my brain just for mentioning it.

I like doing these game stickers because my familiarity with the subject matter allows me to sketch them out with little-to-no research. My only goal is to capture the spirit of the game, and to make it recognizable. In this way, I am able to figure out and put forth my own personal style.

Honestly, an off day for stickers

Already did an Autobot logo. I decided to treat all robots equally and do a Decepticon one.

This may be the fastest and easiest sticker I've done since the beginning. Due in part from my experience, but also an obvious symmetry and lack of curves.

I didn't do any drawing today, so I didn't sit down with any real ideas. This was the sort of day where time passed by so quickly, I was surprised I got anything meaningful accomplished.

NannerLegos

No real reason for today's sticker - it just happened to be the last thing I thought of. Recently got some dental work done. On some weird pain meds. Finding Final Fantasy V to be the best thing ever...

Legends of the Hidden Nanner

Olmec. A creepy, animated, statue with some wacky history stories who would lure kids into his crazy temple full of booby traps and armed guards. I sure miss tv shows like that.

I posted that last sticker with the wrong yellow color. I really want to change the look of the prince in that piece, then I'll post the correct image. Small thing, I know - but necessary in the mind of the creator.

Nannermari

A Katamari Damacy sticker. Not sure how I feel about The Prince in this one, but the Katamari itself is pretty sweet.

RegularNanner

I love Adventure Time, but Regular Show is my jam. Compared to Adventure Time, there's not a lot of great artwork out there for this one. I actually ended up basing this sticker on a screen capture from the show itself.

I have been doing a great deal of "tracing", I know. Thing is - I learn a lot from trying other peoples' styles. These vector illustrations still take quite a bit of planning and trial and error to create. Even with the foundation laid out in front of me, there's still the tricky matter of assembling points and shapes, creating compounds, adjusting stacking order, assigning the correct stroke values, and fitting the image into three strange colors (the character in this sticker is a blue jay, and I opted to make him yellow for design reasons).

From a drawing I did during a meeting. Sort of a trial image to attempt fuzzy things before I start vectoring my goat sticker.

Secret of Nanner

It's Shade! Sure he looks evil (and he may well be), but he teaches the sprite some pretty awesome attack magic. Even at low levels, the Dark Force spell looks cool and...sorry, this game gets me worked up sometimes.

I have a folder sitting on my desktop full of cool images from all over the internet. Most of these are concept art for JRPGs and collectible card games. I guess when you break it down, that's the stuff that has really inspired me to do what I do. Card games like Magic: The Gathering got me interested in fantasy art which got me to study fine art, which inspired me to learn traditional drawing and painting, which lead me into typography and design theory, which got me into computer graphic design, ultimately bringing me to vector illustration and this fine daily project.

I'm so glad my images have returned.

If you couldn't tell - I love Adventure Time.

Whoa! It's working.

Images soon

Worked on some Adventure Time Stickers. Doing elemental spirit, Shade from Secret of Mana. Working on some stickers that hadn't made it past the sketch phase. Getting really ambitious with a complicated goat sticker.

NannerGlasses

I made a pair of glasses for a banana this evening. Not that it really matters right now.

NannerMoogle

Tonight's sticker is a moogle doll. Based on Amano's FFVI character designs rather than the current style - this cute creature is one of the few things that carries over between Final Fantasy games (other core things like elemental crystals, summons, cactuars, and Cids show up a lot as well).

I may have to axe my other blog to fit a few more images here. I suppose I could also just pony up some cash to upgrade my storage space. End of the week at the latest.

NannerKunio

I based today's sticker off of one of my very favorite NES games - River City Ransom. In Japan, there were a bunch of games in this series based around hot-blooded high school brawlers (the lead character is called Kunio).

For this sticker, I opted to take a direct study of the original artwork and create my vectors from there. Drawing from memory and research is always my preferred method, but occasionally I like to get as close as possible to existing work and see what makes it function. This is the frame of mind I was in when I made the sticker based on Hokusai's great wave print last week. I can take no credit for these original creations, and I would never seek to profit from them. This is a place for me to learn and share my discoveries - that's all.

Images continue to be a problem. My primary goal this week is to push forward and figure out how to get it all working again.

Still figuring it out...

Space may be a commodity. Not sure if I'm really up to my limit or not. Either way, there doesn't seem to be a way to post my pictures to the blog just yet. Instead of struggling to figure it out, I will just work on getting some stickers done.

Whatup, blogger.com?

Having trouble posting pictures to the blog. Check out the quality of the image in that last post. That's out of my hands. I think I may have hit my upload limit. Researching the problem as we speak.

Issues

Technical difficulties are preventing me from getting this piece up in time. Here's the near finished version.

NannerDrive

I really enjoyed the movie "Drive". I kept hearing about it on all of my favorite blogs and seeing all kinds of vector illustration and paintings related to the film. This scorpion appears on the lead character's jacket throughout movie. It's also yellow, which is as good an excuse as any for making a quick banana sticker for the night.

NannerSaturn and NannerAE86

Earthbound. One of my favorite games of all time. Has some of the most dedicated fans in the world. It's unfortunate that, outside of Smash Bros., nothing has really been done with the great characters of Earthbound. Mr. Saturn gets a tribute here.

Choro-Q Week: Day Five

According to my research, my favorite car was never made into a choro-q model. To remedy that, I have decided to 'shoop tha woop' and make my own AC Cobra choro-q.

As you can see: I found an image using google image search, traced around the car with the pen tool, separated the image from the background, used free transform to stretch and squash the car to the right proportions, removed extraneous details (part of the window, the chassis, the brackets for the missing bumber), filled in the grill and windshield, and thickened the tires with some quick copy-paste-behind shenanigans. I now have a photograph I can work with.

I realized today after I finished listening to the new Accidental Creative podcast that these difficult themes are really unhealthy for my creative process. The whole point of this daily project is to come up with a new sticker every day. I think these cars are nice and challenging, but the lengthy process is causing me some despair. I'm really behind on stickers, which makes it difficult to even want to consider new ones. I don't want to work this way. So tomorrow will be the last choro-q sticker. Then we're back to regular days.

Choro-Q Week: Day Four

This theme is killing me. I have to see this thing through, but I have no idea how I'm going to do it.
